God’s Purposes In A Hostile World: Exodus 1:1-22 [May 25, 2025]

Title: God’s Purposes in a Hostile World
Text: Exodus 1:1–22 (NKJV)

Main Point:

God is always at work to fulfill His promises, even when the world seems against us.

I. God Multiplies His People Despite the World’s Hostility (Exodus 1:1–7)

  • God’s promises to Abraham are being fulfilled.

  • Even in obscurity or transition, God is growing His people.

II. The World Responds to God’s Blessing with Fear and Opposition (Exodus 1:8–14)

  • Pharaoh feared God’s blessing and oppressed Israel.

  • “The more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied.”

III. God Honors the Faithful in the Face of Evil (Exodus 1:15–21)

  • Shiphrah and Puah feared God and chose obedience over compliance.

  • God sees and rewards courage rooted in reverence.

  • Echoes today in standing for life amid a culture of death.

IV. The Enemy Rages, but God’s Plan Continues (Exodus 1:22)

  • Pharaoh escalates to public genocide.

  • God uses the river of death to carry a deliverer—Moses—into his enemy’s household.

  • Evil cannot overrule God's redemptive plan.

Application

For Believers:

  1. Trust God’s providence—He is always working.

  2. Fear God above man—stand for truth.

  3. Expect hardship—suffering does not cancel His promises.

For Non-Believers:

  1. See God’s mercy—He is patient and powerful.

  2. Turn to Jesus—the greater Moses who rescues from sin.

  3. Surrender your life—He is worthy of your trust.

Reflection Questions

  • What promises of God are you tempted to doubt right now?

  • In what areas are you being called to fear God over man?

  • How can you defend life and truth in small, faithful ways?
